Crimson Wrestlers, Managers, and Families-
Week Five/Six Recap:
Hope everyone had a Blessed Christmas and a Joyful New Years with family/friends.
Fortunately, either our wrestlers don’t eat like I do over the Holidays or they worked it off during
the two-a-day practices. With out the workouts I’m pretty sure I would need to wrestle up a
weight.
About those workouts – In the week and a half between Redwood and Eau Claire we had 14
practices – including 6 days where we offered two practices. Many wrestlers attended all (or
almost all) of those practices. The second practice in the two-a-days are option for our JV
wrestlers and I was extremely impressed by how many JV wrestlers chose to stay and get an
additional workout in. I believe this stretch of practices was our best stretch to date. We had our
hardest practices of the season – and many athletes put forth an exceptional effort. It's our goal
to use this stretch as a turning point in our season and I feel really good about this plan coming to
fruition for those who were able to be consistent in their attendance and participation.
While our consistency continues to need work, overall, I felt Thursday was the best we’ve
wrestled as a team this season. The first dual we came out firing and won 7 of 13 matches to
defeat Coon Rapids in what is serving as our Conference Dual. To pull off the victory we
needed to win two of the last three weights (which happened to be 113, 120, and 126 due to
Wisconsin rules starting at different weights each dual). Eighth grader Abdulaziz Alibrahim
picked a great time for his first Varsity win (which happened to be a win by Fall) and Freshman
Damian Seubert followed that up with a 15-7 major decision to secure the dual victory.
From there I felt we wrestled a little flat in our next two duals before once again seeing the focus
and intensity we are looking for in the final two duals. Throughout the day, many individuals
looked the best I’ve seen them wrestle this season (or in some cases ever). On the Varsity side
Sophomore Connor Peterson and Junior Ben Schultz went undefeated, while Junior Noah Fox
went 4-1; Freshman Ethan Hong went 3-1; and both Sophomore Jaeden Hubbard and Junior
Thomas Schlangen went 3-2. Eighth grader Lincoln Rudek wrestled the best match I’ve ever
seen him wrestle in a 18-10 win and Senior Chase Thein had a terrific and memorable come
from behind pin.
It’s always fun to wrestle well up and down the line-up – and at times that’s exactly what
happened Thursday.
On the JV side we had five champs (Cole Tabler, Vincent Iacono, Ty Newton, Jonathan Murphy,
and Benyam Reda), as well as four wrestlers (Liam Swerdlick, Eddie Hahn, Grady Mandle, and
Jackson Kilzer) finish second. By all accounts we wrestled well. Many of our JV guys are
newer or completely new to the sport and watching this group practice and compete now vs. just
a few weeks ago – the improvement is night and day. The results of their efforts are starting to
show. I didn’t get to see much of the JV but the coaches reported being impressed by the very
apparent improvement that could be seen throughout the line-up. There are a number of
impressive young athletes in the group and their progress has been a lot of fun to follow as they

gain experience. Looking forward to seeing what these guys can do as we approach 9 th grade
sections and JV Conference Tournaments later this month and early next month.
We are heading into the second half of the season with exciting momentum. Here are the details

Mat Boss Video Access:
Many wrestlers are now watching their matches on Mat Boss each week – which is awesome!
This is a great opportunity for kids to learn from their matches and improve at a much faster rate
than would otherwise be possible. Watching back matches can be a great learning tool and is
highly encouraged. Please let me know if you/your wrestler has not been able to get in to Mat
Boss and would like to do so or if you have any other questions. Thanks.
Sports Engine, Facebook Page and Future Communication:
Lastly please download the Sports Engine App and sign up to receive future communications.
Parents and wrestlers can each sign up to receive future communications and schedule changes
through the Sports Engine app by going to Crimson-Wrestling.com. If you have any challenges
with this, please text me your email address at 763-913-0601 and I’ll make sure you are added to
the app portion. Please let me know if you have any questions with this as we will use this app
for communications throughout the season.
Also, we often post fun pictures or related articles on the Maple Grove High School Wrestling
Page on Facebook (along with this article). If you are a Facebook user, please like our page.
Thanks!

Looking forward to getting back on the mats and getting better in the upcoming weeks – as well
as continuing to test ourselves vs. four conference and three section opponents in the upcoming
two weeks.

As always let me know if anybody has any questions.
