Crimson Wrestlers, Managers, and Families-
Week Three Recap:
Week three is in the books – and another big milestone of the season is behind us. The
Crimson Invite was proceeded by five excellent practices and two hard fought Friday
night duals. We’ve already wrestled 25% of our regular season varsity dates and 50% of
our home dates for the season. Crazy!
Friday night we were down a number of our typical Varsity guys but the home team wrestled
hard and came away with a 1-1 record on the night. We may be 1-3 but when healthy with
our best team on the mat this is a winning team. I fully expect we’ll be coming out on the
right end of duals more and more as we get our guys back on the mat.
Saturday was the Maple Grove Tournament. This is always a tough tournament and it was
a meat grinder this season as well. Fortunately, we wrestled well – placing 5 of 9 Varsity
wrestlers with a Champion (Ben Schultz), a runner-up (Thomas Schlangen), a fourth-place
finisher (Alex True), and two sixth place finishers (Lincoln Rudek and Abdulaziz Alibrahim).
On the JV side we had two champions (Freshman Amir Bouzouma and Reese Redlinger),
as well as at least four runner-up finishers (Freshman De’Montay Farr and Benyam Reda;
as well as Eighth grader Gavin Muhlstein, and Seventh grader Travis Kusie). There were a
number of other Crimson who also finished 2-1 on the day.
Our girls also competed well against some tough and far more experienced competition and
did some good things. I believe Russo Capel won another match and took sixth on the day.
It’s been a lot of fun to see this group of athletes develop as well.
Overall, the weekend was a success and gave us lots to build off of. The steady
improvement of every wrestler who’s been at and able to practice regularly is remarkable.
Excited to see this team continue to work towards reaching their potential. Looking forward
to continuing on this path throughout the week ahead!
Also, a special thank you to all the wrestlers who stayed and helped clean up the gym areas
after a long day of wrestling. It was a long day but the character of those who take pride in
making sure everything is done prior to leaving is very impressive. We have some good
leaders and a lot of selfless individuals on this team. We are focused on continued
character development – and I believe the efforts of those staying to help clean up reflects a
strong starting point. Keep it up wrestlers!
Below are the details you'll need for the week ahead.
Volunteer Thank You!
We have officially survived two of our biggest events that require a lot of help (Maple Grove
Youth Tournament, and Maple Grove High School Tournament)! It’s nice to have them in
the rearview mirror so we can focus on wrestling and having fun for a while. Running
successful tournaments takes the efforts of many dedicated individuals to make them a
success. Maple Grove Wrestling can be very proud of the events we were able to put on
this season.

These two tournaments directly and indirectly provide great opportunities for our athletes –
which is what it’s all about. Thank you to everyone who made contributions! It takes many
people all contributing – but many hands make light work and we are very Blessed to have
so many people who are committed to the success of the program and these events!
Thank you all for your support!
Practices:
Time to get back to work and continue improving upon our strengths while fixing any
mistakes and weaknesses that have come to light. Hoping to continue improving every time
we step on the mat which should to lead to a considerably better Crimson wrestling team
every week. The plan is as follows:
Monday, 12.11 – Weight Room at 2:10p; Wrestling room at 3:10p
Tuesday, 12.12 (Morning Practice – Varsity Wrestlers only invited) – Wrestling room from
5:45a – 6:45a so that wrestlers have time to shower afterwards. Wrestlers invited include:
Damian Seubert, Reese Redlinger, Alex Fox, Logan Buman, Ethan Hong, Alex True,
Connor Peterson, Jaeden Hubbard, Jayden Waste, Noah Fox, Thomas Schlangen, Tucker
Fournier, Ben Schultz and Chase Thein. Others may attend if they are approved by Coach
Leuer and bring their own partner.
Tuesday, 12.12 (Afternoon Practice - Weight Room at 2:10p; Wrestling room at 3:10p for all
10 th , 11 th , and 12 th graders plus Damian Seubert, Logan Buman, and Ethan Hong. Wrestlers
who attended the morning practice will be done practicing around 4p. 7 th /8 th /9 th graders
(except Damian, Logan, and Ethan) will leave MGSH for Elk River at 3:15p for the 9 th
grade Jamboree.
Wednesday, 12.13 – Wrestling room at 3:10p.
Meets and Tournaments:
Thursday, 12.14 – At Anoka with Andover (Triangular). The schedule is as follows:
Bus Leaves Maple Grove at 3:15p
Weigh-ins: 4:00pm in wrestling room
Anoka vs MG: 5:00pm
MG vs Andover: after first round
Friday, 12.15 – Redwood River Riot – Day 1. The bus will leave from MGSH at 10a
(students attending will need to get notes from their parents to leave class early on this
day). Weigh-ins are in Redwood Falls at 2p (with +1-pound allowance). Friday night
Varsity will wrestle in an individual tournament starting at 4p while the 7 th , 8 th , and 9 th graders
that are not competing on Varsity will wrestle three duals.
Saturday, 12.16 – Redwood River Riot – Day 2. Hopefully all of our wrestlers will compete
on this day. All Varsity wrestlers who qualify for Day 2 as well as everyone who did not
wrestle Varsity will wrestle. Weigh-ins on Saturday morning are at 7a with wrestling
beginning at 9a. There is a +2-pound weight allowance for all competing athletes.

Following the tournament, we will stop in Redwood at Pizza Ranch and then return to Maple
Grove Saturday evening. We will also have some food for the boys/managers to eat after
weigh-ins and during the tournament. We will not provide a meal for wrestlers on Friday
night (as some will be watching their weight). Money will need to be sent if they want food
outside of the meals mentioned above.
Upcoming Schedule Change:
Over Christmas break we are going to run our main practice at 9a. How and what days we
will run our two-a-days for our Varsity expected (everyone else optional) is still to be
determined. More details to come in future weekly updates.
Out of Town Trips:
I have started putting together the rooming list for the previously mentioned Redwood River
Riot. If your athlete has not paid AND turned in their permission slip for this tournament
please have them do so ASAP! This is going to be a fun tournament for all in attendance.
We leave for the Eau Claire Tournament on 12.27, stay the night at the Metropolis Resort in
Eau Claire, and then wrestle (Varsity and J.V.) on 12.28. We will leave early on the 27 th ,
practice at the University of Eau Claire, and then head to the hotel for some fun. The
Metropolis Resort has a water park on one side of the hotel and an Arcade/Go-Kart
Track/Trampoline Park, etc. on the other side of the hotel – so 12.27 should be a lot of fun
and a great team builder for the guys. On the 28 th the Varsity will wrestle duals while all
other wrestlers will wrestle an individual tournament.
We do ask wrestlers to contribute to a portion of the expenses for these trips as we take a
coach bus, stay overnight at a hotel, provide a significant portion of each wrestler’s food
while there, and stop to eat at a Pizza Ranch on the way home. It is $50 per trip or $75
total for the wrestlers planning to attend both trips (half price from previous seasons due to
financially successful Youth and Varsity Tournaments). I have handed out permission slips
at practice but will have more on hand for any wrestlers who may have misplaced their
sheets. Please have permission slips and payment turned in to Coach Troy ASAP.
If you/your wrestler/manager would like to attend but finances will not allow please let me
know and we’ll try to figure something out.
Although not necessary, parents/families are also encouraged to attend and support the
team. The wrestlers love these tournaments – and it’s been my impression the parents
enjoy them just as much.
The hotels we stay at are as follows:
Redwood – We are staying at the AmericInn Sleepy Eye again this year. They may be sold
out for 12.15 but it’s possible something changes. Their website is:

eye?msclkid=6bfd7f583cda19e8de871cd50788bc4f#room-types

There is also a Casino/Hotel near where we are wrestling that may be an option. Their
website is: https://www.jackpotjunction.com/
Eau Claire - https://www.metropolisresort.com/
Crimson Wrestling Apparel:
If you missed the group order windows for ordering apparel but would still like to order Crimson
Wrestling Apparel (and pay the shipping) The Ordering Website is:
https://maplegrovewrestlingapparel.dakawards.com/
Youth Practices:
We’ve asked all wrestlers to help coach at one youth practice per season and for
Varsity wrestlers to commit to two practices in a season. This week’s practice is on
Monday from 6p – 8:15p (Wednesday is at the Minnesota Gophers Wrestling Room
from 6:30p – 8p). We’d like to have two wrestlers signed up for each practice.
Monday’s practice does not currently have any wrestlers signed up. Please let me
know if you/your wrestlers are available to help with week.
Mat Boss Video Access:
You have noticed our awesome managers are video-taping (as well as scoring) our
matches. For our new wrestlers I will be collecting wrestler emails this week in order to
send out personal invites to wrestlers so they can watch their videos. Mat Boss has
changed the way they do this for privacy reasons and there is no longer a team code
available. Wrestlers will only have access to their matches.
We are also doing what we can to ensure the matches are uploaded and as accurate as
possible. Unfortunately, with events sometimes having 6 or more mats and us having
significantly less managers than that we will not be able to tape every match.
Wrestlers/Parents are encouraged to have someone video tape their matches.
Watching tape opens up all kinds of cool possibilities for the team. The most basic of which
is that each wrestler can watch their matches once they are uploaded. Watching back
matches can be a great learning tool and is highly encouraged. Have your wrestler make
sure I receive their email address and look for their invite to begin utilizing this valuable tool.
Please let me know if you have any questions. Thanks.
Sports Engine and Future Communication:
Lastly if you haven’t, please download the Sports Engine App and sign up to receive future
communications. Parents and wrestlers can each sign up to receive future communications and
schedule changes through the Sports Engine app by going to Crimson-Wrestling.com. If you
have any challenges with this, please text me your email address at 763-913-0601 and I’ll make
sure you are added to the app and are receiving future email communications. Please let me
know if you have any questions with this as we will use this app for communications throughout
the season.

It should be both a fun and informative week. Looking forward to it. As always let me know
if anybody has any questions.
