Crimson Wrestlers, Managers, and Families-
Week Two Recap:
The first competitions of the season are always exciting. It’s a learning opportunity – for the newest wrestlers, for the experienced wrestlers looking to make a jump, and for the coaches. Collectively we learn where we are at (and for many what this whole wrestling
thing is all about). Having the opportunity to figure out where we are at and where our focus needs to be to get where we want to be is what I look forward to for the first two weeks of the season.
The competition season kicked off on Thursday night with duals vs. Elk River and Blaine. Both duals were tightly contested and we could easily be 2-0. We earned victories in 11 of the 22 matches wrestled but unfortunately, we come up on the wrong end of two tightly
contested matches. Wrestlers to go undefeated on the night included Ben Schultz (2-0), as well as Damian Seubert, Tucker Fournier, and Ayden Gunville (all 1-0). In the JV portion of the dual the Crimson earned a number of wins as well – including first year wrestler Cayden Kise who also went 2-0 on the evening. Overall, the night was a fun way to start the season and provides a lot of hope for things to come. Very exciting to see everyone in action! Saturday’s Coon Rapids Tournament had a lot of kids and with Track Wrestling going down during the middle of the day the tournament took many hours longer than it would have otherwise. That said, it was a pretty good day for Crimson wrestling. On the Varsity side 6 of our 9 Varsity wrestlers placed with Ben earning top honors while Damian (4 th ), Ethan Hong (4 th ), Alex True (6 th ), Thomas Schlangen (7 th ), and Tucker (8 th ) were our other place winners. Russo Capel earned our first girls wrestling victory in Crimson girls wrestling history and we had a number of JV wrestlers finish 3-1 or 2-1 on the day. I also enjoyed seeing the way our wrestlers bonded with one another throughout the day. Our wrestlers all seemed to have numerous teammates in their corner supporting them throughout the day. Character has been a big focus in our team chats thus far and I expect
this will be a high character team throughout the season. Now it’s time to take what we’ve learned and put forth the effort to improve. The goal is to be 1% better each day. We have a starting point and we expect to see obvious growth throughout the team on a weekly basis. Excited to see where these individuals and thisteam can go!
Here are the details you'll need for the week ahead.

Volunteer Request - Please Help!
Our biggest event of the high school season that we put on is fast approaching. As many know, we host a 16 Team Varsity and JV tournament this upcoming Saturday. We have many needs to pull this tournament off and make it a first-class tournament that offers our
athletes a great experience as well as keeps other teams coming back. Because our current wrestlers will be wrestling in the event, we rely on our parents to step up and take this on. Currently we are very short in numerous areas. Your help would be greatly appreciated with the following:

- Table Workers. We plan to set-up 6-7 mats and will need 2-3 table workers at each
mat throughout the day. This means we’ll need at least 12 table workers at all times
(12 from 8:30a – 1p and 12 more from 1p – 5:30p).
- We will also need people to help with admissions throughout the morning (probably
two tables (Door C and D).
- We will need help in concessions.
- We will need help with runners in the Coaches room.
- We need some help with security throughout the day.
- If you have significant wrestling knowledge, we may need help with the coordination of the JV portion of the tournament.
Thank you to everyone who has already signed up to help. Please consider signing up for one or more shift at the tournament.

Practice and Meet Schedule:
Looking forward to utilizing the next four practices focusing on what we did well this past weekend as well as working to improve on the areas we struggled. The plan is as follows:
Monday, 12.4 – Wrestlers in 10 th – 12 th grade (plus Damian Seubert, Logan Buman, and Ethan Hong will have a normal Monday practice as usual – (Weight Room at 2:10p; Wrestling room at 3:10p.)
9 th grade team Event: Monday, 12.4 – Is our first meet for our 7 th /8 th /9 th graders with a Quad at home with Cambridge, Coon Rapids, and Monticello. Most wrestlers have already weighed in at practice on Friday, 12.1 and any who didn’t can weigh prior to the meet on
Monday. This is another opportunity for these wrestlers to get valuable match experience while also competing as part of a Team format. All 7 th /8 th /9 th grade wrestlers other than Damian, Ethan, and Logan should plan to attend the 9 th grade duals.
NOTE: We do need 4-6 table workers for this event. Please let us know if you are willing tohelp!
Tuesday, 12.5 (Morning Practice – Varsity Wrestlers only invited) – Wrestling room from 5:45a – 6:45a so that wrestlers have time to shower afterwards. Wrestlers invited include: Damian Seubert, Reese Redlinger, Alex Fox, Logan Buman, Ethan Hong, Alex True,
Connor Peterson, Jaeden Hubbard, Jayden Waste, Noah Fox, Thomas Schlangen, Tucker Fournier, Ben Schultz, Ayden Gunville, and Chase Thein.

Thursday, 12.7 – Wrestling room at 3:10p.

Meets and Tournaments (NOTE: All JV events include all non-Varsity wrestlers.
7 th /8 th /9 th graders wrestle in JV events as well as 9 th grade events).
Friday, 12.8 – Home Tri. vs. Rush City and Washington Technical School. Weigh-ins will be at 3:30p. The projected Schedule is as follows:
3:30p - Weigh-ins
4:30p – Rush City vs. Washington Technical School (V/JV)
5:45p – Rush City vs. Maple Grove (V/JV)
7p – Washington Technical School vs. Maple Grove (V/JV)
This is also Youth night and it’s possible we will have our posters completed for ourwrestlers to sign autographs for our youth wrestlers. Following the dual we will set up anything we haven’t been able to get to yet for Saturday’s tournament (shouldn’t be too much).
Saturday, 12.9 – Maple Grove Tournament. Wrestlers need to be at Maple Grove Senior High at 7a for weigh-ins at 7:30a. Wrestling begins hopefully at 9a. JV (all non-varsity) wrestlers will likely get 3 matches while Varsity will be a double elimination tournament.
Upcoming 9 th grade team Event:
Tuesday, 12.12 – Is our second 9 th grade event with our 7 th /8 th /9 th graders at Elk River for a Jamboree. Wrestlers will weigh-in on Monday, 12.11 for this event. Wrestling will be an individual format with many other teams in our 9 th grade section. All of our 7 th /8 th /9 th grade wrestlers other than Damian, Ethan, and Logan should plan to attend this event as well.
Out of Town Trips:
This week we will also begin finalizing our list of wrestlers who plan to attend the two overnight trips. The Redwood River Riot is 12.15 (Varsity and 9 th grade team) and 12.16 (Varsity and J.V.). The Redwood River Riot is an individual tournament for all Varsity and
J.V. matches while the 9 th grade team will wrestle in three team duals on Friday night.
We leave for the Eau Claire Tournament on 12.27, stay the night at the Metropolis Resort in Eau Claire, and then wrestle (Varsity and J.V.) on 12.28. We will leave early on the 27 th , practice at the University of Eau Claire, and then head to the hotel for some fun. The
Metropolis Resort has a water park on one side of the hotel and an Arcade/Go-Kart Track/Trampoline Park, etc. on the other side of the hotel – so 12.27 should be a lot of fun.
On the 28 th the Varsity will wrestle duals while all other wrestlers will wrestle an individualtournament.
We do ask wrestlers to contribute to a portion of the expenses for these trips as we take a coach bus, stay overnight at a hotel, provide a significant portion of each wrestler’s food while there, and stop to eat at a Pizza Ranch on the way home. It is $50 per trip or $75 total for the wrestlers planning to attend both trips. I have handed out permission slips at practice and will hand out additional slips as needed early this week. The deadline for wrestlers to register for Redwood falls will be this Thursday, 12.7 so we can plan for our hotel and food needs. Please have permission slips and payment turned in to Coach Troy prior to Thursday. If you/your wrestler would like to attend but finances will not allow please let me know and we’ll try to figure something out. Although not necessary, parents/families are also encouraged to attend and support the team. The wrestlers love these tournaments – and it’s been my impression the parents
enjoy them just as much.
The hotels we stay at are as follows:
Redwood – We are staying at the AmericInn Sleepy Eye again this year. They may be sold out for 12.15 but it’s possible something changes. Their website is:

There is also a Casino/Hotel near where we are wrestling that may be an option. Their

Eau Claire - https://www.metropolisresort.com/
Crimson Wrestling Apparel:
The final opportunity to order Crimson Wrestling Apparel as part of a group order (no shipping) is coming to a close with the store closing tonight (Sunday, 12.3). The Ordering Website is:
https://maplegrovewrestlingapparel.dakawards.com/
Also, if you/your wrestler would like to order a personalized Crimson Wrestling backpack ($40 range) or a personalized Crimson wrestling Warm-ups (Jacket and/or Joggers – roughly $120
total for both) those orders will be placed shortly. Please see the email that was sent out regarding the order and follow up as needed.
Youth Practices:
We’ve asked all wrestlers to help coach at one youth practice per season and for Varsity wrestlers to commit to two practices in a season. This week’s practices are
Monday and Wednesday from 6p – 8:15p. We’d like to have two wrestlers signed up for each practice. Neither Monday or Wednesday’s practices currently have any wrestlers
signed up. Please let me know if you/your wrestlers are available to help with week.
Mat Boss Video Access:
You have noticed our awesome managers are video-taping (as well as scoring) our matches. For our new wrestlers I will be collecting wrestler emails this week in order to send out personal invites to wrestlers so they can watch their videos. Mat Boss has
changed the way they do this for privacy reasons and there is no longer a team code available. Wrestlers will only have access to their matches.

We are also doing what we can to ensure the matches are uploaded and as accurate as possible. Unfortunately, with events sometimes having 6 or more mats and us having significantly less managers than that we will not be able to tape every match. Wrestlers/Parents are encouraged to have someone video tape their matches.
Watching tape opens up all kinds of cool possibilities for the team. The most basic of which is that each wrestler can watch their matches once they are uploaded. Watching back
matches can be a great learning tool and is highly encouraged. Have your wrestler make sure I receive their email address and look for their invite to begin utilizing this valuable tool. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thanks.
Sports Engine and Future Communication:
Lastly if you haven’t, please download the Sports Engine App and sign up to receive future communications. Parents and wrestlers can each sign up to receive future communications and schedule changes through the Sports Engine app by going to Crimson-Wrestling.com. If you have any challenges with this, please text me your email address at 763-913-0601 and I’ll make sure you are added to the app and are receiving future email communications. Please let me
know if you have any questions with this as we will use this app for communications throughout the season.
It should be another fun week – looking forward to seeing things continue to click for our newer wrestlers and continued development from our more experienced athletes. As always let me know if anybody has any questions.
