What a weekend! Our Crimson wrestlers went a combined 10-7, including 3 place-winners! It's not very often that you have a team winning record at the state tournament. Extremely proud of the way everyone prepared and competed. All five of our wrestlers came ready for battle and put their best foot forward.
A few quick highlights:
1. Senior Thomas Schlangen had the fifth seed that had majored him earlier this season. This time Thomas flipped the script earning a tech fall early in the 3rd period. Thomas wrestled as well as I believe he's every wrestled in that match - earning his 140th career victory in the process. That state tournament victory will always be a great memory for him.
2. Senior Ben Schultz ended his storied Crimson career with a Fall in the 3rd place match. Very fitting considering Ben is the all-time pin leader in school history for both a career and a season. Ben becomes the first and only three-time state place winner in school history.
3. Junior Connor Peterson also completed his tournament with a 3rd place medal around his neck. Connor earned tech falls in both of his final matches - also fitting considering Connor owns the all-time single season and career records for tech falls.
4. Freshman Carol Stevenson became the first female Crimson wrestler to become a high school state place winner. 'CC' was the youngest girl in her bracket but wrestled tough and was able to walk away with one final Crimson girls first (9th grade female state champ, female high school state entrant, and now female state place winner).
Sophomore Ethan Hong also battled hard but due to the odd set-up of the state tournament only had one match. Fortunately, he'll have two more seasons to come back and attempt to make his mark. Congrats to all five wrestlers!
Next up on the agenda is our end of season meeting tomorrow (Tuesday, 3.4) at 2:45p for equipment check-in (head gear, singlets, warm-ups, knee pads), Coaches comments, and team award voting. We will meet in the wrestling room. Hope everyone can make it. Please let me know if you have any questions.
