Crimson Wrestlers, Managers, and Families-

Week Thirteen Recap:

After going over two weeks without a Varsity competition, it was great to see our guys back on the mat competing at Team Sections.  We were given the sixth seed – and our first-round opponent (Rogers) had the third seed.  Despite being considered the underdog by nearly every in the gym, our wrestlers and coaches fully expected to win.

That said there was little margin of error.  We needed to find a way to win the close matches, get as many pins as possible, and limit the bonus points we were giving up.  We expected an intense back and forth dual – and that’s exactly what we got.  Team battles like this are so much fun to be a part of!

Our guys were motivated to battle for themselves and for their brothers on the team.  It was easy to see we were the better conditioned team – and we wanted it more.  We won eight of the 14 weights including five by pin (Ethan Hong, Connor Peterson, Rufus Bartee, Ben Schultz, and Ayden Gunville).  Our other three wins were the three closest matches of the dual when we earned victories consecutively from 138 – 152 by a combined four points (Thomas Schlangen, Max Johnson, and Jayden Waste).  Thomas started that string with a takedown for the win off a restart with five seconds left for an epic victory we will be talking about for a long time!

Ultimately, we earned the 39-31 upset victory to advance to the team semi-finals.  Unfortunately, he magic of the day ended there as we earned three wins vs Wayzata (Connor Peterson, Max Johnson, Ben Schultz).  Wayzata has a strong team and we don’t match up well.  That said, getting another match was big for our guys and our team.  It will help in our preparation for the upcoming week.

We should have some good momentum heading into an even bigger week.  We are wrestling well right now – and it’s time to take our wrestling to the next level at individuals!

NOTE:  It’s been great to have many wrestlers attending practices daily this week whose competition season is complete.  We ask all wrestlers to finish the season with their team as they are an integral piece of our competing individual’s success.  Hopefully all wrestlers will continue to participate in daily practices.  The ability to be a great teammate is something that shows a lot of character – and I know character will be on full display in our practice room for the next week and a half.  Thanks to all who continue to prioritize their teammates!!!  If any of these athletes are looking to find additional competition opportunities this month or next, please reach out to me.

Mat Boss Video Access:

Many wrestlers are now watching their matches on Mat Boss each week – which is awesome!  This is a great opportunity for kids to learn from their matches and improve at a much faster rate than would otherwise be possible.  Watching back matches can be a great learning tool and is highly encouraged.  Please let me know if you/your wrestler has not been able to get in to Mat Boss and would like to do so or if you have any other questions.  Thanks.

Sports Engine, Facebook Page and Future Communication:

Lastly please download the Sports Engine App and sign up to receive future communications.  Parents and wrestlers can each sign up to receive future communications and schedule changes through the Sports Engine app by going to Crimson-Wrestling.com.  If you have any challenges with this, please text me your email address at 763-913-0601 and I’ll make sure you are added to the app portion.  Please let me know if you have any questions with this as we will use this app for communications throughout the season.

Also, we often post fun pictures or related articles on the Maple Grove High School Wrestling Page on Facebook (along with this article).  If you are a Facebook user, please like our page.  Thanks!

Things are about to get intense!  These next two weeks are when goals and dreams are realized.  We also have some things we’d like to achieve as a team on Saturday – and it’s time to make those goals happen as well!  Very excited for our guys and looking forward to seeing everyone put all their hard work on the line to accomplish their personal greatness.  As always – Go Crimson!!!

Let me know if anybody has any questions.
