Crimson Wrestlers, Managers, and Families-
Week Ten Recap:

The most exciting time of the season is upon us.  As we move into our final month of the season, we are looking to refine each wrestlers plan as well as help each athlete mentally prepare for success.  We talk about the things our wrestlers can do to prepare for success such as proper diet, solid sleeping habits, independent mental preparation, and prioritizing well to eliminate additional stresses (working ahead on school work, etc.).

We have a strong core of guys who are showing up every day and giving their all.  They seem to be taking it all in and it’s easy to see the growth that is taking place on match day.  As a team our practices have been more focused and the intensity has increased at the appropriate time.

The efforts of our wrestlers are more evident on each meet day.  We are wrestling better each time we step on the mat.  We have a bunch of wrestlers who are very fun to cheer for – and it’s exciting to see good things happening.

On Friday night the JV wrestled very well by all accounts.  On the Varsity, we lost a hard-fought dual to Centennial before winning in dominating fashion vs. Coon Rapids.  Varsity wrestlers to go 2-0 included Connor Peterson, Rufus Bartee, Thomas Schlangen, Max Johnson, Noah Fox, and Ben Schultz.

On Saturday we sent nine wrestlers to 9th grade sections.  We compete in possibly the toughest 9th grade section in the state – and we placed 7/9 competitors.  Our top finisher was also our only seventh grader in the tournament - Lincoln Rudek – who finished third.  Other place winners included fifth place finishers Damian Seubert and Ethan Hong; Sixth place finishers Alex Fox, and Grady Mandle; Seventh place finisher Dylan Buchanan; and eighth place finisher Jaeden Hubbard.  9th grade sections is one of the tournaments we look forward to all season and all nine of our guys competed hard and wrestled well.

At South St. Paul we had 11 wrestlers competing on JV with many picking up wins including champion Jackson Neighbors Rahkola earning three pins on the day.  I didn’t get to see as much of the JV as I would have liked but there is a lot of impressive things happening with this group and even those who have not had as much success with wins and losses have made a lot of positive strides.  Very fun to see these 11 wrestlers competing and getting better!

We also sent out nine Varsity wrestlers with eight wrestlers earning a place in the 17-team field.  Place winners were Champion Ben Schultz (195); Runner-ups Connor Peterson (120), Rufus Bartee (132), and Max Johnson (145); Third place finisher Chase Thein; and fifth place finishers Thomas Schlangen (138), Noah Fox (152), and Ayden Gunnville (220).  Rufus earned his trip to the finals out of the seven seed while Noah was unseeded and finished 4-1 on the day.  Thomas also dominated the day – minus the last ten seconds of his first match.  Wrestlers throughout the line-up continue to jump levels and it’s going to be a lot of fun to see where all these wrestlers end up at their respective end of season tournaments.

Lots of good things happening throughout the program.  Thank you, parents, for your continued support of these young men and for all you do to enhance their wrestling experience!  We have another exciting week upon us – so a special thank you in advance for those who are doing what they can to help at this Friday’s tournament.

Mat Boss Video Access:

Many wrestlers are now watching their matches on Mat Boss each week – which is awesome!  This is a great opportunity for kids to learn from their matches and improve at a much faster rate than would otherwise be possible.  Watching back matches can be a great learning tool and is highly encouraged.  Please let me know if you/your wrestler has not been able to get in to Mat Boss and would like to do so or if you have any other questions.  Thanks.

Sports Engine, Facebook Page and Future Communication:

Lastly please download the Sports Engine App and sign up to receive future communications.  Parents and wrestlers can each sign up to receive future communications and schedule changes through the Sports Engine app by going to Crimson-Wrestling.com.  If you have any challenges with this, please text me your email address at 763-913-0601 and I’ll make sure you are added to the app portion.  Please let me know if you have any questions with this as we will use this app for communications throughout the season.

Also, we often post fun pictures or related articles on the Maple Grove High School Wrestling Page on Facebook (along with this article).  If you are a Facebook user, please like our page.  Thanks!

Wednesday is February – we are officially entering the season’s final push!  This is a big week for our team as we work towards peaking at the right time.  The coming weeks are the most exciting of the season (Rivalry dual vs. Osseo, JV Conference, Team Sections, Individual Sections, and the State Tournament).  No better way to get that stretch started then with some great duals and one last regular season tournament – in our own gym!  Looking forward to it!

As always let me know if anybody has any questions.
