Crimson Wrestlers, Managers, and Families-

Week Fourteen Recap:

All season we’ve focused on the process of being our best.  While our focus is on more than just these final tournaments – there is no denying the section and state tournaments are the pinnacle of the season.  I’m proud that despite some unfortunate and untimely injuries, we were still able to put a Varsity quality wrestler out at every weight class.

Crimson Wrestling finished with 12 section place winners.  We placed as follows:

6th:  Chuck Langama (182)

5th:  Evan Kilgard (106), Noah Fox (145), Julian Stevens (170), Andrew Toms (182), Ayden Gunville (220)

4th:  Rufus Bartee (126), Ben Schultz (152)

3rd:  Ethan Hong (113), Luis Haro (Hwt.)

And of course, the State Entrants:

2nd:  Connor Peterson (120)

Champion:  Max Johnson (138)

Each wrestler did a great job of maintaining a great attitude and giving their absolute best effort each match.  Congrats to all of our participating wrestlers!

I’m also impressed by the support these wrestlers received from teammates throughout the week – in the practice room as well as at the section tournament.  Showing up and working hard and then attending the meet in support not only shows character – it leads me to believe there are a lot of wrestlers who are looking to continue their progress now – for future seasons.  That’s exciting and there are some upcoming opportunities for our younger wrestlers to keep competing (see below).  We will be also be going over many additional options for offseason growth at the End of season meeting on Tuesday, March 8th.

Presently I’m excited for the opportunity ahead of us this week.  Please encourage your wrestlers to be part of the preparation at practice this week as well as the state tournament experience at the Excel Center.

Here are the details you’ll need to know for the week ahead:

  1. Wrestlers who were born in 2006 and after are eligible to compete at the State Tournament in Rochester.  Wrestlers born in 2008 or 2009 need to qualify but wrestlers born in 2006 and 2007 can just register and attend.  Details can be found here:  https://theguillotine.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/MNUSA-Wrestling-Kids-State-Individual-Folkstyle-Tournament-2022.pdf

End Of Season Meeting and Equipment Turn In:

Tuesday, 3.8 – We will turn in equipment, talk about the offseason, discuss captains for next season, and vote for season award winners.  All wrestlers are required to attend and parents are invited to attend – especially if they would like to hear about the offseason opportunities.

Luther Team Camp:  In years past we have attended the Luther (Iowa) Team Camp as a Team and it’s always been a great experience that our guys look forward to during the summer.  This summer’s camp is July 10th – 13th.  Just wanted to give everyone a heads up so we can hopefully save the date.  Please let me know when possible if you/your wrestler is interested in attending.

Mat Boss Video Access:

Many wrestlers are now watching their matches on Mat Boss each week – which is awesome!  This is a great opportunity for kids to learn from their matches and improve at a much faster rate than would otherwise be possible.  Watching back matches can be a great learning tool and is highly encouraged.  This is how that is done:

Here is a video showing you how to gain access to your matches:

Our team code is: NR64T1

Please let me know if you have any questions.  Thanks.

Sports Engine, Facebook Page and Future Communication:

Lastly please download the Sports Engine App and sign up to receive future communications.  Parents and wrestlers can each sign up to receive future communications and schedule changes through the Sports Engine app by going to Crimson-Wrestling.com.  If you have any challenges with this please text me your email address at 763-913-0601 and I’ll make sure you are added to the app portion.  Please let me know if you have any questions with this as we will use this app for communications throughout the season.

Also, I often post fun pictures or related articles on the Maple Grove High School Wrestling Page on Facebook (along with this article).  If you are a Facebook user please like our page.  Thanks!

Technique Video of the Week:

We have won’t have any additional Technique of the week videos for the season.  Right now, it’s about mastering the technique that you know and utilize most.

The Week Ahead:

The final week of the season – where the most prestigious goal in high school wrestling can be realized – a State Championship!  Let’s get behind Connor and Max in the practice room and at the Excel Center.  Go Crimson!!!

As always let me know if anybody has any questions.
