Crimson Wrestlers, Managers, and Families-

Week Twelve Recap:

Hard to believe some of our wrestlers’ competitive seasons are already over.  This season has flown by!  Looking back on how far these wrestlers have come in just a few months is really impressive.

Last weeks competition schedule included our last regular season dual on Friday vs. Elk River.  Between sickness and some injuries, we took the mat with only four guys who had started the season wrestling Varsity.  Seventh grader Logan Buman and Sophomore Rajesh Arbes made their Varsity debuts and made up two of the five wrestlers who wrestled Varsity Friday night and also competed at JV Conference on Saturday (Jayden Waste, Noah Fox, and Ayden Gunville were the others).  Ultimately, we won four of the nine wrestled matches (Connor Peterson, Ben Schultz, Julian Stevens, and Ayden Gunville had the victories).

Saturday morning most of our guys headed to Park Center for JV Conference.  As I told the wrestlers throughout the week, JV Conference is one of my favorite tournaments of the season.  It’s a great opportunity for our younger and less experienced wrestlers to display the talents they’ve developed this season.  We set a Team goal of having 10 JV Conference place winners.  Despite being without some of our previously most successful JV wrestlers due to sickness and injury, we hit this goal (with no room to spare).

Our 10 JV-Conference wrestlers for the 2021-2022 season were:

3rd place:  Rufus Bartee (126)

4th place:  Damian Seubert (95), Logan Buman (106), James Engle (138),

5th place:  Alex Fox (95), Evan Kilgard (106), Jayden Waste (132), Noah Fox (145)

6th place:  Juan Maldonado (120)

8th place:  Ayden Gunville (220)

I really enjoy watching our JV Conference guys wrestle.  They wrestled hard all day and won some exciting matches.  They also lost some heart breakers.  But this group is so young – the wins and losses don’t matter nearly as much as the growth that is taking place – and this group of wrestlers continue to get better every time they step on the mat.  Very proud of these wrestlers and already looking forward to what they can become in future seasons.

Also on Saturday was the Conference Head Coaches meeting where Connor Peterson, Max Johnson, Ben Schultz, and Luis Haro were named All Conference while Julian Stevens was named All-Conference honorable mention.  Congrats guys!

Presently, our focus turns to our 21 wrestlers who will represent our team at team sections this week and our 14 wrestlers who will represent crimson wrestling at individual sections the following week.  In support of these wrestlers, we need all wrestlers to continue to attend practice through the end of every wrestler’s season.  Each wrestler plays a role in the success of the team and each individual’s success.  I look forward to seeing our wrestlers who are no longer competing display their character, commitment to their brothers on the team, and an overall team first attitude in the upcoming three weeks.

Here are the details you’ll need to know for the week ahead:

Week 13 Practice/Meet Schedule:

Monday, 2.14 – Practice:  Weight Room at 2:10p; Wrestling room at 3:10p.

Tuesday, 2.15 – Practice:  Wrestling room at 3:10p.

Wednesday, 2.16 – Practice:  Weight Room at 2:10p; Wrestling room at 3:10p.

Thursday, 2.17 – Practice:  Wrestling room at 3:10p.

Friday, 2.18 – Practice:  Wrestling room at 3:10p.

Saturday, 2.19 – Team Sections at St. Michael Senior High.  The bus is scheduled to leave at 8a with wrestling set to begin at 10a.  We are the 4th seed and will wrestle Rogers in the first round (who is the 5th seed).

We will plan to dress 21 – which is the maximum number of wrestlers we are allowed - who should all make their weight and could all be called on to compete depending on the situation.  These wrestlers will be finalized and communicated this week at practice.  All other wrestlers are encouraged to attend and support their team throughout the tournament.

Mat Boss Video Access:

Many wrestlers are now watching their matches on Mat Boss each week – which is awesome!  This is a great opportunity for kids to learn from their matches and improve at a much faster rate than would otherwise be possible.  Watching back matches can be a great learning tool and is highly encouraged.  This is how that is done:

Here is a video showing you how to gain access to your matches:

Technique Video of the Week:

Last week was the last installment of Technique of the week for the season.  Right now, it’s about mastering the technique that you know and utilize most.

Final Thoughts for the Week:

We have officially entered the Memory Making stage of the season.  These next few tournaments will bring the most intense and most exciting matches of the season.  The stakes are higher and the wins are sweeter.  Goals and dreams will be realized.  Our guys have worked hard this season and they deserve all the success that comes their way.  They’re going to put it all on the line and leave it all on the mat.

I know they appreciate all the support they receive from their teammates, managers, parents of their fellow wrestlers, and other supporters.  Thank you to all who go out of their way to support these hard working and impressive young men during this time!

Cheer Hard Crimson Wrestling Fans!  Your presence will be felt and it’s going to be fun!

As always let me know if anybody has any questions.
